Be Careful With Insurance Companies

When you get into a car accident or a loved one with a life insurance policy dies your first reaction when contacting these companies is to quietly and peacefully go through the claims process and agree to everything they ask for. However, I would not be so quick be Mr. agreeable with these companies. In the case of a life insurance policy or a automobile accident the insurance companies may try to get you to sign some release giving over all medical records that pertain to the relevant individual. This can hurt your insurance claim very badly and you should consult a lawyer in these situations.

In the case of the automobile accident it is very likely the automobile insurance company will try to review every single medical record they can get their hands on and say that your injury/ medical issue was a preexisting medical issue that had nothing to do with the car accident. This way the insurance company can pay out less money. In the case of the life insurance company they can do an investigation with those medical records and try to disqualify the life insurance policy by stating that an individual lied on the life insurance application about medical questions such as being a smoker. Do not give these insurance companies more information than you have to.

Another trick that automobile insurance companies will do is get you to make a recorded statement and after that recorded statement is over if you develop some pain or issue down the road the insurance company will make you look like you are lying because you never brought it up in the recorded statement.

Automobile insurance companies have also been known to try to get the individual who is making the insurance claim to settle very quickly so that if medical issues develop down the road it will be too late for the individual to seek compensation for those injuries because they already agreed to a settlement.

For all of these reasons I would be very cautious when dealing with insurance companies and consider getting a lawyer if I had an insurance claim with one.
